The pair will be hoping to give their trainer a record seventh win in the race, after success with dual winner High Chaparral, St Nicholas Abbey , Magician, Found and Highland Reel.
He is a horse with a lot of speed. He is made like a miler. He takes plenty of racing to keep him right. Desert King won the Irish 2, Guineas to give Aidan O'Brien his first classic success.
Aidan O'Brien was crowned England's champion trainer, the first Irishmen to achieve the feat since Vincent O'Brien in It started off with the removal of Michael Kinane as stable jockey.
Kinane was replaced by the young Jamie Spencer who had developed a good reputation riding in the UK.
However the year ultimately proved disappointing on the track. Spencer was replaced after a string of self-confessed mistakes on Powerscourt in the Arlington Million and on the same horse again in the Breeders' Cup Turf.
Kieren Fallon replaced Spencer as Ballydoyle's stable jockey. On the first classic weekend of the flat season the newly formed partnership of Aidan O'Brien and Kieren Fallon took home both the 2, Guineas Footstepsinthesand and the 1, Guineas Virginia Waters.
More major successes followed with Oratorio Eclipse Stakes , Irish Champion Stakes , Scorpion Grand Prix de Paris , St. Leger and juveniles George Washington , Rumplestiltskin and Horatio Nelson.
The start of the flat season saw George Washington confirm his juvenile promise by easily winning the 2, Guineas on Newmarket 's Rowley Mile to give O'Brien his fourth win in the race.
While George Washington disappointed in the Irish equivalent, he redeemed himself in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot. Dylan Thomas also made his mark in the top middle distance races in Europe.
After going close in the Epsom Derby, he was found to be more effective under a patient Kieren Fallon ride in the Irish Derby.
Dylan Thomas also showed his battling qualities in the Irish Champion Stakes , where he beat the Champion mare Ouija Board by a neck. He went to Leopardstown after that and the plan was to drop him in, but he hit the gate fast with Seamus so he let him run and he won very easy.
He beat Orderofthegarter that day, but he might have caught him on a bad day, as Orderofthegarter was green and a bit slow to react on the day.
DOUGLAS MACARTHUR 3 b c Galileo — Alluring Park Rated , he won a maiden at Leopardstown in July and acquitted himself well without winning in three subsequent starts in Group company, including when a close fourth in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud in October.
He made a promising return to action when second in the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown. Last year he was physically mature, but mentally immature. He seems to have grown up mentally over the winter and his return at Leopardstown was very good.
EASTON ANGEL 4 gr f Dark Angel — Staceymac Rated , she won two Listed races over five furlongs for Michael Dods in She changed hands for ,gns in February.
She has already been covered by Galileo and I believe she has been confirmed as being in foal. EXEMPLAR 3 ro c Galileo — Miarixa Rated , he is a half-brother to Blue Bunting and won a maiden at Galway in September prior to finishing a close third in the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.
FINN MCCOOL 3 b c Galileo — Mystical Lady Rated , he made it fourth-time lucky in a maiden at Navan in October prior to finishing seventh in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.
He worked after racing at Leopardstown last weekend and will go for one of the Derby trials in England. He should get a mile-and-a-quarter plus.
He disappointed on his latest start in the Sheema Classic at Meydan in March. He has a great constitution, a great mind and is a very sound horse.
She made a winning seasonal reappearance in the 1, Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown in April. She was very straight in fitness terms going to Leopardstown.
IDAHO 4 b c Galileo — Hveger Rated , he progressed into a high-class middle-distance performer last season, finishing second in the Irish Derby and winning the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.
Physically he has done well over the winter. He has a high enough action, but he handles good ground well. He made an encouraging return to action when fourth in the UAE Derby at Meydan in March.
Ryan was very happy with him. We were training him for the Kentucky Derby, but it looks like he might struggle to get in, so we might look at the Preakness for him.
MINDING 4 b f Galileo — Lillie Langtry Rated , she was crowned European Champion Two-Year-Old Filly in and enjoyed a remarkable three-year-old campaign in which she won five Group 1 races including the Guineas, the Oaks and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot.
We decided to work her at Leopardstown rather than run her at Naas last weekend. Everything went well there and she might start off in the Prix Ganay in France.
The Tattersalls Gold Cup and Royal Ascot will be possibilities for her too. ORDER OF ST GEORGE 5 b c Galileo — Another Storm Rated , he won the Irish St Leger in and the Ascot Gold Cup last year.
He has done well both physically and mentally over the winter and is in good order. He ran a serious race that day and well capable of competing over a mile-and-a-half too.
PEACE ENVOY 3 b c Power — Hoh My Darling Rated , he won a Listed race at Naas in May and the Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh in July prior to finishing a close third in the Prix Morny at Deauville.
He has plenty of scope and will hopefully find some improvement this year. PROMISE TO BE TRUE 3 b f Galileo — Sumora Rated , she won the Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown in July and went on to finish second in the Prix Marcel Boussac at Chantilly.
She ran below form on her seasonal reappearance in the 1, Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown in April. She was forward enough in physical terms, but mentally she might not have really clicked in yet and that might have just caught her out on the day.
She could go for the Guineas, the Irish 1, Guineas and then onto the Oaks. She will progress from race-to-race and will probably improve when she steps up in trip.
RAIN GODDESS 3 b f Galileo — Where Rated 98, she made a winning debut in a seven-furlong maiden at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend for David Wachman and made a satisfactory return in the 1, Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown in April.
Seamus was happy with her. She will go straight to Newmarket for the Guineas and should have no problem stepping up to a mile-and-a-quarter in due course.
I think she is versatile when it comes to ground. ROLY POLY 3 b f War Front — Misty For Me Rated , she progressed into a high-class juvenile last season, winning the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket and finishing a short-head second in the Cheveley Park Stakes.
She was a hardy two-year-old, we gave her plenty of racing and she took it with a smile on her face. SEVENTH HEAVEN 4 b f Galileo — La Traviata Rated , she won the Irish Oaks and the Yorkshire Oaks last season and made an encouraging return to action when second in the Sheema Classic at Meydan in March.
I think a mile-and-a-half might be as far as she wants to go. She could be a filly to look forward to this year.
SIR JOHN LAVERY 3 b c Galileo — Race For The Stars Built on his promising debut when winning a maiden at Gowran Park by seven lengths. SOMEHOW 4 b f Fastnet Rock - Alexandrova Rated , she won the Cheshire Oaks at Chester and the Snow Fairy Fullies Stakes at the Curragh last year.
She made an encouraging seasonal return in the Park Express Stakes at Naas in March. She seems to have progressed well since last year and maybe a mile was just a bit sharp for her.
She could go to Gowran Park for the Victor McCalmont Stakes next and possibly on to France for her run after that. US ARMY RANGER 4 b c Galileo — Moonstone Rated , he won the Chester Vase last year prior to finishing second to Harzand in the Derby.
He made a satisfactory return to action in the Alleged Stakes at Naas in April. It was a mess of a race, they steadied it right down in the middle part of the race and he started to pull hard.
Ryan did the right thing by making him sit in and do it properly, but it just left him with a bit to do when they sprinted for home. Looking back to last year, it was too much of a rush with him to try and get him to the Derby and he paid the penalty a bit.
I had probably pushed the work into him too heavy and it just became a bit too much for much for him before the Irish Derby. WAR DECREE 3 b c War Front — Royal Decree Rated , he made a winning debut at Leopardstown in June and having finished second in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket, he won the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in fine style.
He might go for the Craven. Fast ground suits him well. WINTER 3 gr f Galileo — Laddies Poker Two Rated , she made it third-time lucky when winning a maiden at Dundalk in August when trained by David Wachman.
She showed much-improved form on her seasonal reappearance when a close second in the 1, Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown in April.
I was very happy with her at Leopardstown as she was drawn badly, caught wide and just ran a bit too free. Wayne was impressed with how well she kept galloping after racing as freely as she did.
Physically, she looks like a middle-distance filly. YUCATAN 3 b c Galileo — Six Perfections Rated , he won a maiden at the Curragh prior to finishing second in the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh and in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.
He made an encouraging return when a close third in the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown. Ryan was very happy with him and so was I.
He could be a good colt. AIR FORCE BLUE 3 b c War Front — Chatham Rated , he was crowned European Champion Two-Year-Old having become the first-ever horse to complete the Group 1 triple of the Phoenix Stakes, the National Stakes and the Dewhurst Stakes.
He proved very disappointing on his seasonal reappearance in the Guineas at Newmarket. Everything was smooth all the way to Newmarket. Sometimes when you put a tongue tie and a crossed noseband on a horse, it can make them slow down and back off a little bit.
He might not always look like he is racing very freely as he has a very good head position when galloping, but if you watch closely, he was doing plenty.
It might sound strange, but if a horse like that was allowed go six-furlong pace from the start in a Guineas, they would probably be competitive for longer than they would if restrained early on.
I would always rather try something like that if I felt it would make the horse perform better and learn from what happens whether it works well or not and not be afraid to say it was the wrong call afterwards.
So, we have left the tongue tie and crossed noseband off since Newmarket and I would imagine it will stay off for his next race too.
But, when you do that, you have to be careful as some of the ones you are trying to rev back up might not be ready. The relentless stream of superstars is showing no signs of slowing down.
Mogul and Innisfree are expected to lead the charge on that front, although he admitted it had not been easy preparing his team for Epsom this year. The master trainer thinks there might be more to come from Juddmonte International winner Japan, last seen finishing fourth to Waldgeist in the Arc, while Magical races on at five after retirement plans were put on hold.
The season might have been delayed, but better late than never. We were very pleased with his run in the Coronation Cup at Newmarket last Friday and that should set him up nicely for the season.
It was nice to see him coming back to form. We were pleased with him in the Coronation Cup and it was nice to have him back in action.
He likes good ground and a mile and a half suits him well. He might even stay a bit further than that. He did really well when we dropped him back to a mile last year.
She ran some big races last year and was unlucky not to win a Group 1 along the way. Ballydoyle Celebrate Royal Ascot Success Royal Ascot week began on a high for Ballydoyle, as Arizona No Nay Never captured the Group 2 Coventry Stakes under Ryan Moore, beating impressive maiden winner Threat Footstepsinthesand by half a length.
